Joan Baker lives and works in Shropshire. She was born in Wolverhampton 1943 and studied at Wolverhampton College of Art and Birmingham University. Her paintings are exhibited at WorkshopWales, Manorowen, Pembrokeshire, The Silk Top Hat Gallery, Ludlow, Shropshire and from her studio. Because she paints her way through her life, her work is in a constant state of metamorphosis. Her brush with cancer in 2006 and her practise of meditation created a series of paintings which identify with the spiritual and emotional journey through this period. 'The Dance of Unknowing', 'Meditation', 'Return to the Light' are part of this period. Other sources of inspiration are the Pembrokeshire landscape and the Isles of Scilly; especially from the reality of the seen composition; the internalising or digesting the energy from this and then the interpretation onto the paper of the "other" reality. Her work is now in collections here and abroad. Exhibitions in 2007 will be at Tal y Llyn Nurseries, Meifod, Powys
in June, Old Bell Gallery, Motgomery in August
